Peter Munk-Petersen

"I work with the client for the sake of integrity and harmony, and take into account his particularity and potential for change. The massage forms are both gentle and effective, the client quickly feels physical and mental well-being."

Peter Munk-Petersen is a hardened businessman who turned a new page in his life in the early 1990s, when he began to study various methods of body healing: craniosacral therapy, connective tissue massage, visceral massage, various body relaxation techniques, Ida P. Rolf's structural integration, or rolfing, body harmony system, acupuncture, etc.

More than a massage

It is a common understanding that a massage is effective when the masseuse kneads your body vigorously and thoroughly pats you down. Peter uses completely different, much softer techniques, but the effect is much deeper. Many methods are intended to relieve symptoms, their root causes are not dealt with, and so you have to go to therapy all the time, because tensions in the body arise again. Peter looks for the root causes of physical symptoms and works with the client on a physical, emotional and mental level.

Methods

Peter himself describes his method as follows: Peter himself describes his method as follows: The term "massage" is very broad, it can mean very different touches. My method is healing manipulation massage. I feel what the client feels in their body and find the disharmony in the tissues. If the disharmony is under my fingers, I change the feeling that is in my body, and if as a result there is a change in the client's body, healing has taken place. The massage is not really a massage, I touch the core of disharmony with my fingers. Manipulation consists in the fact that I consciously make changes in the client's body, turn disharmony into harmony. Where attention goes, energy flows, we change what we focus on. For example, when I worked on your leg, at first I felt tension in both my leg and yours, and then I changed the feeling in my own body. I call it healing manipulation.

Peter came to Estonia at the invitation of the founder of the Holistic Institute, Marina Paula Eberth. You can read more about Marina's experience with Peter here: https://holistika.ee/tervendava-puudutuse-meister/

Techniques

A professional touch awakens the body's intelligence. The loss of tension brings a feeling of lightness and well-being to the body, and the body can begin to heal itself. The changes are significant: tensions dissolve, blood supply to the body improves and pain decreases.

Peter himself about his method: "My method is healing manipulative massage. I feel what the client feels in their body and find the disharmony in the tissues. If the disharmony is under my fingers, I change the feeling that is in my body, and if as a result there is a change in the client's body, healing has taken place. The massage is not really a massage, I touch the core of disharmony with my fingers. Manipulation consists in the fact that I consciously make changes in the client's body, turn disharmony into harmony, and healing takes place."

He doesn't talk long. Due to his exceptionally good intuition, he knows perfectly where the tensions are located in the client's body, and based on his long-term experience, it is clear in a few moments which part of the body needs to start the therapy. The almost two-meter-tall man knows how to press sensitively with his big hands and safely stretch exactly where needed. The therapy is a powerful combination of awareness, body work and movement.

Habits related to the body can be changed if the client himself contributes to the changes. Peter teaches how a person can help himself in the future so that good results remain. He demonstrates the exercise and then watches closely how the client does it. The exercises he teaches are not just physical. He uses figurative comparisons such as "let the control free, let the knees step". And that's what helps, because these are keywords that are easy to remember and that the body listens to.

Residual signs of fractures can be healed in one session. However, if it is, for example, chronic back pain, more than one therapy session is usually needed.

Symptoms for which help is available:

Stiffness in the shoulders, frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis, (pain and stiffness in the shoulder, some movements cannot be done), tingling fingers, pain in the hand or foot, problems with posture and walking (for example, walking with the feet inward), pain or tension in the foot or knees. Backaches, spine problems such as curvatures.

Neck injuries, neck pains, old fractures that are felt from time to time, also for example an old skull fracture, curvature of the spine, problems with the pelvic bones, pain in the hips, knees or ankles, problems with the toes, pain after surgery, abdominal pain, stiffness or pain in the abdominal area.

Craniosacral therapy stimulates the central nervous system and creates balance in the body. Tensions in the cranial plates, around the spine and in the vertebrae are reduced, the hormonal system is balanced, the circulation of the spinal fluid and also the general circulation are improved.

The cranial system extends from the skull, face and mouth down through the sacrum to the femur, its parts are the ventricles of the brain, the membranes of the brain and the spinal canal. It is a central physiological system that controls the functioning of the entire organism. Osteopath W. Suhterland noticed that the cranial sutures between the skull bones are mobile, contrary to the popular belief that they are fused together in adults. There is a gentle rhythmic pulsation similar to breathing. It is one of the deep rhythms of the organism, which is controlled by an internal force, not a physiological process, and this so-called primary breathing begins from the moment of conception and continues until death.

Physical and emotional traumas experienced during life change the normal mobility of the structures of the cranial system, which in turn prevents the normal functioning of the entire organism. Our body has a very high potential for self-healing, which the therapist can trigger through the cranial system, helping to restore the primary breathing rhythm.

It is a soft therapy method, the therapist's touches are very gentle, but the effect is very deep. During the session, the person may feel warm or cold sensations, buzzing, chills, body expansion, expansion and deep relaxation.

Because the therapy promotes the coordination of the brain's hemispheres, clarity of thought increases and therapy is helpful for learning disabilities. Suitable for the treatment of several stress-related symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, pressure behind the eyes, for example bed-wetting in children. You can also get help for birth trauma or old skull trauma.

Peter Munk-Petersen: In my experience, people with hyperactivity and ATH (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) benefit greatly from craniosacral therapy. The therapy increases blood flow to the frontal lobes, the area where the brain processes the impulses that cause problems for the client.

More than 200 children between the ages of 3 and 14 have attended her for craniosacral therapy. 2/3 of these children have recovered. For some children, one time is enough, for some, more times are needed, it depends on the age of the child and also on how long his body can accept the therapy.

For children, one session lasts from 10 to 30 minutes.

While most massages focus on muscles, rolfing focuses on the connective tissue of the human body, which connects other tissues together and supports flexible body parts (joints, ligaments, tendons). Rolfing is more comprehensive and deeper than any ordinary massage. The basic idea of Rolfing is the premise that the body needs less energy as soon as it aligns itself on a vertical line.

Ida P. Rolf states that connective tissue responds to daily stress and injury by hardening. Rolfing helps release these areas of stiffness by stretching the body's muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. and improves posture. The health of the spine improves as it does not have to compensate for areas full of tension and/or vertically misaligned. After Rolfing sessions, general well-being appears, stress decreases, which also helps with breathing problems and, for example, asthma. Clients feel lightness, greater mental and physical harmony, mood improves.

A comprehensive treatment course consists of 10 sessions, the result is a naturally straight and fully balanced body.

Healing stories

Bente Klitsgaard suffered from polio as an infant, for which he underwent repeated operations until his leg became stiff. He moved like this for years. After craniosacral therapy, her leg regained mobility.

Bente visited Peter regarding the pains that had developed in his knees and hips due to constant overuse due to his polio.

"If the body is overloaded, I use the Rolf methodology, where I work with the entire human body. In Bente's situation, I also used craniosacral therapy to improve mobility in his ankle and foot. I was pleasantly surprised that the mobility was quickly and visibly restored. The joints became flexible and the leg springy. The result remained long-term. ” – Peter Munk-Petersen

"I visited Peter seven times (by the time of publication of the article) and I feel a noticeable change in the mobility and balance of my foot. Now I lean on my sick leg in a completely different way. After a session with Peter, I can feel how my body will continue to work on its own for several more days." – Bente Klitsgaard

– Berlingske Tidende, Wednesday September 4, 1996

Rasmus had a difficult birth. The birth was induced by the doctors, and after several days of struggle, the blue-headed Rasmus finally came out of his mother's womb. Although Rasmus's health indicators were normal, during the first six years of his life, not a single night passed when the family was able to sleep through the night. At 14 months, it was clear that Rasmus was not developing age-appropriately, and the parents sought help from both ergotherapists and chiropractors. However, the situation did not improve significantly.

When Rasmus was 6 years old, his mother read about craniosacral therapy in a newspaper, which described that this therapy helps with imbalances in the central nervous system. Such imbalance can occur, for example, during birth, falling, hitting the head or back. Mother was particularly impressed by the potential of craniosacral therapy in relation to learning ability and vision. "I didn't know anything about this therapy other than that it was painless, which was a big advantage for Rasmus to participate in it," writes Rasmus' mother.

Initially, Rasmus could only stay still for 15 minutes at a time during the session. "The session itself looked like a complete hookus-pocus. How can such a gentle touch really do anything?” recalled the child's mother. However, the result was already visible after the first visit - for the first time in his life, Rasmus slept through the whole night.

The family continued with the sessions and progress was made after each session. Rasmus slept through the night and if he sometimes woke up, he didn't cry. His temper eased - we were now able to calm him down and reduce the time of conflicts. The boy's interest in learning increased - he felt like playing, drawing, he asked a lot of questions. He was able to concentrate better. He stopped peeing the bed. He no longer had to wear glasses.

"Today, I see how chiropractic and craniosacral therapy are connected, because I understand that Rasmus' neck was injured during childbirth. This is exactly what these areas deal with," Rasmus' mother describes.

Even six months after the end of the course of craniosacral therapy, Rasmus' condition continues to be good. Peter also taught the boy's mother some therapy techniques, which she still does to Rasmus from time to time. Rasmus now attends a regular kindergarten and gets along well with other children.

"Rasmus will probably have to fight and struggle a little more throughout his life than the average child, but as long as he can be in harmony and happy, it will all be worth it."
